Blog 1 - BIM, AR, future in Buildings

The building construction industry has been evolved, and still developing to achieve sustainability, energy efficiency and human safety. The combination of Internet of Things (IoT) into the developing BIM is facilitating the future of BIM with operation and maintenance automation for the building equipments. Hilti’s R&D team is also developing tools that automate the maintenance for their equipment as well. Layout Integration Tools reference data from the cloud network and use it to control the hardware elements of their tools......In a sense, their tools manage themselves because they can prepare themselves for operation and also track their own location allowing managerial insight that wasn’t possible before. [1] When the tool-maintenance automation technology comes to the case like time-consuming work, the automated technology is saving lots of time compared to the traditional human inspection and maintenance.

Augmented Reality (AR) is being used by real estate professionals to bring traditional, flat print materials such as blueprints and photos to life right in front of the consumer. [2] By integrating AR and VR technologies into the building indusry, the technology is changing the way people experience building whether it’s viewing an AR 3D building through interactive print OR virtually standing inside the construction site or the building for maintenance.

The future of BIM is the development of interoperability of different information technology systems and software applications. This allows the data exchanges inside the building systems and thus leads to the future of a building that has the ability to adapt to changes of environment.
