Introduction and Intelligent Building Definition

Introduction
Hi! I’m Gabriel (or Gabe) Grajewski; a junior working on my BS/MS in Architectural Engineering. I grew up in a fairly rural area outside of Reading, Pennsylvania. If you look closely, you’ll see that it isn’t near anything.

“fairly rural”

My first co-op experience was at the National Institute of Standards and Technology, where I helped research indoor air quality and ventilation. I continued to follow my interest in indoor air quality at my next co-op as a mechanical intern at CRB Consulting. While there, I was able to use BIM software in the design and construction management of pharmaceutical and food production plants. Since then, I have been researching indoor air quality under Dr. Waring.
I spend a lot of my spare time cooking; most of my dishes are inspired by places I've traveled to (China, Scotland, the American South-West). I don't really keep many written recipes, but could give you a few good ideas for a meal, if you'd like.

Intelligent Building Definition
In my opinion, an intelligent building is one that uses technology to aid occupants in some way(s) without the occupants’ explicit input. For example, an occupant sensor can turn on a light without a person needed to use a switch. Similarly, a classroom’s lights could automatically dim and the projector screen rolled out whenever a person puts a PowerPoint into presentation mode.
