Introduction from Hailey Ihlow

Introduction
I am a 5th-year senior studying civil and architectural engineering. I am originally from Oswego, NY about 5 hours North of Philadelphia on Lake Ontario. The red pin in the google snip below is where Oswego is in comparison to Philadelphia.

With coop, I have also gotten the opportunity to go abroad a few times. My first coop was with Pennoni in the West Chester Office doing land development and wastewater management. Then I went to Singapore working for LLC designing concrete facades. After being in Singapore for six months, I headed to Denmark for a study abroad for four months. Within those nine months, I did some traveling around Southeast Asia and Europe. My third coop was with Sowinski Sullivan doing MEP work using Revit mostly. Recently I completed an intensive course abroad in Iceland at Reykjavik University focusing on green and renewable energy.

I currently still work part-time at my third coop but am looking for a job after graduation. I don’t know what I want to do or a location I want to be in, but I am open to change.

Intelligent Building
Working for Sowinski Sullivan intelligent building rings a bell. The firm is mostly architecture for train/bus station. I work with both engineers, and architects in different projects. While the company uses more than just Revit collaboration within programs is how the company thrives. Especially since different offices work on the same project. I use Revit every day I am at work and have to design fire protection and plumbing networks around architecture and structural models. So intelligent building(s) from a design standpoint allows for collaboration and between disciplines and an actual model of the project for clerical checks. From a physical building stance, many descriptions can work for the intelligent building. I think an intelligent building has a lot of MEP and HVAC aspects. Meaning the MEP and HVAC components of a structural change as required for least energy waste.
