Introduction/Intelligent Buildings - Alkiviadis Tsitsios

Hello, my name is Alkiviadis Tsitsios, Alkis for short. I am a graduating civil engineering student here at Drexel with interests in geotechnical engineering. I grew up in Broomall, PA, located in Delaware County. It is about 30 minutes west of Drexel. Growing up near Philadelphia had a great impact on my life, it helped build my love for the city and its sports teams, and drew me to an adult life in the city as well.

I have completed 3 co-ops. The first one was at the Philadelphia International Airport, with the Division of Aviation. I was a construction inspector, where I served as the direct liason between the contractors and the airport. My second was with JMT, where I worked for their Aviation Design Team. We specialized in the design of airfields and runways/taxiways. My last co-op was with Pennoni, where I worked for the civil/site design team. It was a very beneficial experience and it is a field that I would consider in my professional life.

I like to play sports and play music in my freetime. I was a varsity swimmer and tennis player in highschool. I have also played basketball throughout my life, playing on various tournament/club teams, and in recreational leagues. Currently, I am playing in two men's leagues and I enjoy it greatly. I have been playing guitar since I was in 3rd grade. I am self taught, I enjoy playing to pass time and challenge myself to new songs often.

Intelligent building can have many meanings. It utilizes four elements, structure, systems, services, and management to optimize a productive and cost effective environment.  A smart building uses automated processes to control aspects of the building's operations, like heating and ventilation, etc.
